Lease to Locals

Program Concluded

Lease to Locals was an innovative housing program designed to create new rental opportunities for the local workforce in Eagle County. Since its inception in 2022, the program successfully expanded rental opportunities by incentivizing property owners to transform their vacant or short-term rental properties into long-term housing solutions for local residents.

Program Success and Impact
Over the course of the program, 55 properties were converted, providing homes for 112 individuals, including 88 adults and 24 children. The average rent per property was $2,325, with an average rent per bedroom of $1,100. Property owners received an average incentive of $8,500 per property, or about $4,000 per bedroom, to make their properties available for seasonal or long-term leases.

This initiative made a significant impact on Eagle County's housing landscape by adding rental properties in Eagle, Gypsum, Vail, Edwards, Avon, Carbondale, and Minturn.

Program Transition
As of December 17, 2024, the Lease to Locals program is winding down. This decision reflects Housing Eagle County's commitment to evolving its strategies to address emerging challenges and opportunities in the local housing market. While the program has been a valuable solution, we are now focusing on exploring new initiatives to better serve our rural resort mountain communities.
